Want to give a shout out today to Virginia State University near Petersburg for being named the top HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). “Virginia State University demonstrated excellence across virtually all areas of the academic enterprise,” said Jarrett Carter Sr., the founding editor of HBCU Digest, in a prepared statement. “The institution showcased stability in leadership, productivity in research and outreach in its programs of strength — agriculture, education and business.” HBCUs are institutions of higher education in the U.S. that were established before the Civil Rights Act of 1964 with the intention of serving the African-American community. There are 101 HBCUs in the United States, including public and private institutions. Congratulations Virginia State on this great honor and achievement! Go Trojans!!
